No more dryer outlet #

Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at 2:38 PM

In the basement of my mom's office, there was an old dryer outlet.

But the wire gauge was too small.

So today, me and my dad removed the plug, the fuse/switch box and two cables.

It was : panel > blue cable > junction box > orange cable > fuse/switch > white cable > dryer plug.

We left the blue cable and the junction box. We put marrettes on the three wires in the junction box. (So that there is no short circuit if someone turns on the breaker)

That way, the next owners of the house cannot plug a dryer into this unsafe outlet.

The basement is too dirty for clean clothes anyway.

It's a password you leave everywhere and that you cannot change if someone makes a copy of it.

Apple Web Distribution #

Friday, May 10, 2024 at 6:10 PM

It sucks.

Yeah sure, the ipa is on your own server. But since you have to ask permission from Apple to make it available for installation, it is pretty much just a second App Store.

It does not make things better.

You have to submit to a lot of rules and accept a bunch of conditions. Apple may also revoke your app in the future and make it unable to be installed.

https://developer.apple.com/support/web-distribution-eu/

Apple is in control of everything related to installing apps "from websites". So it's pretty much App Store 2.0.

What would /really/ be interesting is if you could install an ipa from a website /without/ having to ask Apple to allow it.

Install my app

There's no good reason for things to be any more complicated than that.

Apple should not be in control of what can and cannot be installed on the devices we bought.

For Sale #

Friday, May 10, 2024 at 7:52 PM

Next year, we're selling the house I grew up in. I am sad.

We are building a new house 45 minutes away and we could only get the loan to build it if we sold our current house.

Right now, I live with my parents in a house. I have been there forever.

We also have a house which my mom uses as her office. We will have to sell it too.

I have so much stuff. It will take a lot of loads to move it all. I was thinking of moving my iMac, server and work PC last. Then schedule the moving of our internet access and static IP (I hope they can move the IP address we currently have). Hopefully, my website will not be down for long.
But this is a year off. I have lots of time.

Butterflies #

The theory that stepping on a butterfly in the past will change the present is completely retarded.

The way I see it, the present was already affected by what you will do in the past. You cannot change anything.

I just finished Doctor Who episode Space Babies.

They also try to avoid changing things or creating paradoxes. What's wrong with changing things ?

Busted Starter #

Sunday, May 12, 2024 at 1:55 PM

We had trouble starting our ATV. We would hear the relay click but the motor would not turn.

So we thought, OK the battery is bad. Let's replace it. (Its voltage was too low too)

So we put the new battery in. Same problem. Relay clicks, motor does not turn.

So my dad pulls the cord. After playing with the choke and pulling a couple times, the motor started.

This means we have a problem with the starter. We will look at it later.

We needed the AVT to pull our trailer with our cement mixer in it. We keep the trailer in a temporary canvas garage in our backyard (that we leave there all year). But to get anything out of the backyard, there is a steep incline to reach the driveway and then the street. We use our ATV (which we keep in the same canvas garage) to pull the trailer up that incline.
We also need the cement mixer at my mom's office. The concrete in the basement is breaking apart. My dad filled three big containers with pieces of concrete. We need to put more concrete on top to make it look nice before we sell the house.

One Bag of Concrete #

Monday, May 13, 2024 at 5:38 PM

Me and my dad spent three hours setting up for our project of smoothing out the concrete in the basement of my mom's office.

At the end, we had time to pour one bag of cement-sand mix.

Next time, we're just mixing and pouring. This should go faster.

Unfortunately, there is an 80 % chance of rain tomorrow.

We need to finish before Friday. This is when the realtor is taking the pictures to sell the house.

Four Bags of Concrete #

Me and my dad just put four bags of cement-sand mix on the basement floor.

We are patching the holes to make the floor look less bad and to make it safer.

We did three patches today. Two hours and ten minutes.

Electric Panels on Holmes on Homes #

Saturday, May 18, 2024 at 1:00 PM

His electrician does something really stupid with electric panels.

- He pulls all the cables out of the panel.
- He drill holes in the plywood on both sides of the panel.
- He fishes the cables from the back, through the holes and into the panel.

Doing it this way makes it impossible to trace the cables.

You open the panel. You want to know where the cables are going.

So you follow the cable. Breaker. Panel. Hole. Hey! Where does it go?

The electrician says it looks neater. Not to me. Plus it's a big problem when you have troubles and need to trace the cables.
