Good or bad #

Science cannot tell good from bad. It can tell you "smoking causes cancer". But the link between "having cancer" and "this is bad for you" is done by a person.

I just watched an episode of Air Crash Investigation and it reminded me of my past hatred of doctors. I still find it disgusting that doctors have been put in a position that they can do whatever they want to anyone and silence anyone saying anything against them as "he is sick, do not listen to him until we fix him so he agrees with us". Only my current psychiatrist I do not hate. He's the first one that actually respected me and not treated me like a complex machine to be logically understood and fixed.

You do need something to differentiate good idea from bad idea so that you don't end up believing in crazy shit. Some people require ideas to be "proved" (whatever that means) or go with "I take as true anything an expert says." Personally, I use my gut. But there are good ideas where "being proved" does not make sense.

I was pulling speaker cables in our home theatre and when done, I spotted a USB port on the back of the TV. This a 83-inch LG "smart" TV with a "point and shoot" remote. So I wondered, can I use a mouse instead of the remote ? I had a spare wireless mouse from the laptop we no longer use and plugged its USB dongle into the TV. It worked ! The TV cursor moves with the mouse ! It's way easier to use and more precise than the "point and shoot" remote. It seams that instead of working like a WiiMote and tracking where the remote is pointing, this remote seems to use a gyroscope to move the cursor up/down left/right. When you move the pointer out of the screen, it stays at the edge and when you move the remote back the pointer moves straight away ! Very difficult to use. Aside, I sure am glad they put a web browser on this thing. I can watch the TV shows and movies on my web server. (And I am not restricted to Netflix and friends). I might just watch my torrented Gold Rush episode on it :)

The four walls of the large shed were built this morning.

Today, the trusses were installed on the large shed and half of the roof was plywooded. They should finish the plywood tomorrow. We will then move the Starlink antenna on the fascia.

Me and my dad just finished moving our Starlink antenna from its old support to the fascia of the large shed. It involved running the Starlink cable, a Cat6e and a water pipe through the Carlon pipe between the mechanical room and the shed.

I don't like that it's considered a "disorder". As if we're supposed to be wired the same way. Or be different within "accepted" ways. I don't know if I "have" autism. A previous psychiatrist who hated me thought I had "severe autism", which is false. Close enough.

I like possibilities. But I do know that people who are will try to impose their ideas on those who are not. So you have to pick something and go with it when talking with them. Note : I don't actually talk to anyone. I just stay home all day long and I do not communicate on the internet. This is theoretical.

The contractors were doing the metal roof on the large shed today. The general contractor did the job himself with one of his employees so that it would be cheaper than hiring the roofing guy. The truck that delivered the sheet metal yesterday had a 900 000 $ bender in the truck to custom make the sheets on site. They are almost done. I assume they will continue monday. They had to move the Starlink antenna on a temporary support to leave themselves room on the peak of the roof and the fascia. When the fascia is done, the antenna will be moved back to its proper place at the peak.

Today, me and my dad attached the cables and pipe in the wall of the shed before putting back the batt insulation and taping the vapor barrier. I also connected the Cat6e to my patch panel in the mechanical room (in the house). Later, I will test the cable by attaching a female outlet to the other end in the shed.

Apparently, the next Doctor Who episode will be the 2026 Christmas special. This is one year away ! I particularly want to know what Billie Piper's role will be in the new series.

Last September, we bought the 60th anniversary DVD collection of Doctor Who on Amazon. The episodes are in french, which means my mom can watch them. I ripped the episodes from the DVDs and put them up on a website so my mom can watch them on her iPad. Of the 175 episodes broadcast between 2005 and 2022, only two are missing : "L'Invasion de Noël" and "Les Maris de River Song".

I just saw a Mayday episode (Alarming Silence) in which you could see Sam's Loans ! That is Les Gold's father pawn shop. I know because I also watch Hardcore Pawn. Talk about a crossover.

Today, the contractors finished installing the front fascia and move the Starlink antenna onto it. There is about an inch between the antenna and the peak of the roof. Before and after.
