July 2022

Friday, July 1, 2022 at 10:52 AM

I thought it would be great if people wore masks after it was no longer required.

In Asia, people wear masks when they get sick to protect others.

We could have had the same thing.

In 2019, when I was in a mental institution, I had to wear a mask when I got sick.

I couldn't get out of my room without a mask and ate in my room.

When I left that room, they disinfected it very well (walls, furniture and floor).

La Petite Vie

Saturday, July 2, 2022 at 3:00 PM

One of the reasons I uploaded La Petite Vie to my website was for my mom.

My mom wakes up often during the night and watching La Petite Vie helps her getting back to sleep.

Without it, she stays awake.

Mosquito evolution

Sunday, July 3, 2022 at 6:21 PM

Mosquitoes are getting smaller than the holes in mosquito net.

Talk about evolution.

Jungle Gold

The Eleventh Hour (Doctor Who)

Sunday, July 10, 2022 at 1:55 PM

The TARDIS destroyed a shed in the backyard.

Amy's family told her that the Doctor didn't exist.

But if the Doctor didn't exist, then what destroyed the shed.

(Amy said that they replaced the shed)

Doctor Who nonsense

Sunday, July 10, 2022 at 2:26 PM

The drainage is above the surface of the road, water cannot get in.

Doctor Who in french

Sunday, July 10, 2022 at 3:06 PM

I just uploaded Series 6 and 7 of my Doctor Who collection.

Doctor Who in english

Sunday, July 10, 2022 at 5:35 PM

I also uploaded Series 8 and 9 from my french Doctor Who collection.

Thursday, July 14, 2022 at 3:48 PM

I just added Season 10 to 13-14 of my collection.

The episodes are in english with optional french subtitles.

Monday, July 18, 2022 at 4:14 PM

I just downloaded the 1080p version.

The french subtitles are not yet available.

I download the subtitles for my parents who do not understand english.

Hannah Montana

Tuesday, July 19, 2022 at 5:00 PM

I just uploaded the two movies.

Phineas and Ferb

Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at 10:56 AM

I just uploaded the series.

Watching series online

Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at 11:22 AM

I would really like it if every TV series had a website with every episode.

As an example, I made my own for three series :

The way I see it, everyone got paid when the series aired.
After that, every episode should be available for free.

Putting them on a website also makes it possible to download the episodes.
So when the series become unavailable, the episodes still exist.

New style

Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at 12:22 PM

I just applied the same CSS stylesheet to my entire website.

I put an Alias in my httpd.conf so that every domain uses the same folder.

This way, I can change the stylesheet in one place and have it applied everywhere.

I also made sure I had a DOCTYPE everywhere.
(I didn't have a doctype before because it made the first <h1> closer to the top)

New switches

Thursday, July 21, 2022 at 3:25 PM

We added a pair of switches to our furnace.

The top one controls the green fan which pulls outside air in through the open windows (the fan is in the basement and exhausts the air through an old chimney)

The bottom one controls the furnace's fan which we keep running 24/7.

This makes it easier to turn off the green fan for the winter.

(The green fan is controlled by the thermostat)

<meta charset=utf-8 />

Thursday, July 21, 2022 at 3:35 PM

The tag works with IE 5+ (from the 90s).

IE wanted to support people who didn't use quotes in their <meta> tag.

Like this :

<meta http-equiv=content-type content=text/html; charset=utf-8>

As you can see, the charset is on the <meta> tag instead of being in the content="" attribute.

My guess is that IE looks for a charset="" attribute and uses it if found.
Otherwise it goes down the http-equiv="" path.

I'm pretty sure HTML5 chose the <meta charset> because it is already compatible with very old browsers.

I like Times New Roman

Thursday, July 21, 2022 at 3:56 PM

I really like the default look of websites.

This is why my website looks like it does.

I just used CSS to add a few borders and center the <body>.

My home page

Friday, July 22, 2022 at 9:49 AM

I just reorganized my home page.

Friday, July 22, 2022 at 10:50 AM

I wished <textarea> was a block element, not an inline one like it is right now.

The way I see it, <pre> should be for display and <textarea> should be for editing.

Saturday, July 23, 2022 at 2:10 PM

I just uploaded the movie.

New recipes

Monday, July 25, 2022 at 11:33 AM

One of our recipe URL started giving a 404.
Fortunately, I found it on web.archive.org.

So that it doesn't happen again, I took the time to copy every recipe to my website :

Now we have the recipes forever.

New USB key

Tuesday, July 26, 2022 at 12:29 PM

We just received the 2 TB USB key we bought on Amazon.

I plugged it into my server to host the many gigabytes of english lesson DVDs for my mom.

I tried to format it in ext4 on linux, but failed.

I then formatted it as exfat on my iMac and succeeded.

I made a domain so that she can watch them on her iPad.

Unmounting a USB key on Ubuntu Server

Wednesday, July 27, 2022 at 12:09 PM

Yesterday, I made a PHP webpage that allows me to mount and unmount the 2 TB USB key we received.

That way I don't have to SSH into my server to unmount the key, I just have to visit the page on my iPhone.

I unplug the key so that my dad can put the mp4 episodes (of my mom's english lessons) on it with his Windows 10 laptop.

My dad's laptop is incredibly slow, which is why I prefer doing the transfer through USB than through SMB.

New gazebo roof

Wednesday, July 27, 2022 at 2:16 PM

Me and my dad tried to replace part of the plastic roof of our gazebo with aluminum.

We failed.

So we put the plastic piece back in and called it a day.

Wizards of Waverly Place

Friday, July 29, 2022 at 9:44 AM

I just uploaded the series and movie.

Friday, July 29, 2022 at 10:12 AM

I just uploaded the series.

The Suite Life

Friday, July 29, 2022 at 11:27 AM

I just uploaded the two series and movie.

Kitchen Nightmares

Friday, July 29, 2022 at 4:24 PM

I just uploaded Return to Amy's Baking Company (Season 7).

Hannah Montana

Saturday, July 30, 2022 at 2:13 PM

I just uploaded No Sugar, Sugar (Season 2, Episode 30).
(I found it on YouTube)

It was never aired in the US because it was wrong about diabetes.

The quality is extremely poor (and zoomed-in), the sound is high-pitched and the video was horizontally flipped (I fixed that last one with ffmpeg).

The episode was rewritten into Uptight (Oliver's Alright) (Season 3, Episode 23).

Invisibility cloak

Sunday, July 31, 2022 at 3:16 PM

If the light goes from one side to the other, how are you going to be able to see from inside of it.
