I just had an eye exam.
In the last three years, my vision went from -9.25 to -10.75.
I should get my new glasses in two weeks.

New glasses : Blue filter beware #

I just got my new glasses.
I like them.
But I don't like the blue filter.
I see blue reflections everywhere now.
Context :
A week ago, I had an eye exam : my vision went from -9.25 to -10.75.
One of the things I thought was nice was that they included the blue filter at no extra cost.
I thought it was going to be invisible ; I was wrong.
The very first second I saw my new glasses (before putting them on), they were VERY blue.
So when I put them on, I liked the fact that I could finally see.
But when I got outside in the sun, I could see blue reflections everywhere.
Looking forward, I would see blue at the bottom of my lenses.
Looking left or right, I see vertical blue reflections.
We went back to the optometrist who then agreed to give me new lenses (without the blue filter) in a week, on the warranty (at no extra cost).
I got my glasses at Visique.

I am watching the Exploding House MythBusters episode.

My idea to find the needles would be to burn the entire stack with gasoline and then process the remaining ashes.
The white bone needle should stand out in the black hashes and the metal needles can be found with a magnet or metal detector.
I also think it would have been much faster than processing the hay in a machine.

Windows 98 on my laptop #

I just finished installing Windows 98 SE (French) on my old ThinkPad R61i laptop.
My parents bought me this laptop in 2008.
Steps I took :
- Found an old Windows 98 startup disk in my floppies collection.
- Booted it with my USB floppy drive emulator (amazed that my BIOS recognized it)
- Used fdisk to put a single partition on the drive.
- Used "format c:" to format the drive (this took 3-4 hours for a 420 GB drive).
- Used "fdisk /mbr" (on c:) to erase the old Debian booting screen from the hard drive.
- I might have rebooted to the floppy (I can't remember)
- Installed Windows 98 SE with an old CD my uncle made (which was not bootable).
- Did "e:" and "install" at the DOS prompt to start the installation.
- At the first reboot, I got an error because my laptop had too much memory.
- I opened my laptop to remove the 3 GB RAM card, leaving one 1 GB card.
- Finished installing Windows 98.
I am now in the process of finding the necessary drivers.
So far, I have installed my USB-FDD driver with a CD and installed my USB key driver with a floppy.
