World Wide Web #

Monday, June 2, 2025 at 12:18 PM

This morning, I noticed most of my websites were not working.

After some search, I discovered that all the "www" records of my domain names had disappeared on dynv6 !

I just added them back manually. Weirdly, all other records were untouched.

Internet in Win98 on 86Box ! #

Monday, June 9, 2025 at 6:55 PM

To make it work, I had to set the first network card to "none" and the second to the one I want.

I set it to "[PCI] AMD PCnet-PCI II", but "[ISA16] Novell NE2000" also worked. I assume others should work.

To know if it should work, run "winipcfg" inside Windows 98 and select your network card. It will tell you if you have an IP address. (If you have selected "SLiRP", the IP address should be "10.0.2.15").

I found the answer in a YouTube video. I prefer text instructions.

If you ever change the card, don't forget to run the new hardware wizard thingy in Control Panel.

Five days #

Sunday, June 15, 2025 at 5:55 PM

In five days, I will be living in our new house.

We are officially moving on the 20th.

Today, me and my dad installed a door lock with a code to protect our stuff.

We already hired movers twice a few weeks ago to move a lot of our stuff from our current house to the new house's garage.

Yesterday and today, we started to move my stuff from my current room into my new office using our trailer. My office seems bigger with boxes in it. I think I will have enough space for everything.

Back to cable #

Tuesday, June 17, 2025 at 4:35 PM

I just changed the IP address of all of my domains back to 24.37.91.254, the static IP we get from our Cable ISP Vidéotron. (I have a second ethernet card in my server with Vidéotron plugged in it, so my server does not need a router.)

I plan to move Starlink to the new house, make sure it works and then move my server there.

I want to move the internet access before we do on the 20th. So that we're not in a rush.

I have everything I need in a cardboard box. My big switch, small switch, router, Wi-Fi access points, faceplates and lots of cables.

I really want to put the Starlink antenna on the peak of the roof where there is no trees in the way, but my mother won't allow it.

The new house is next to the St-Lawrence river, but there are trees all around it.

Now, I want to put the antenna on the large shed we have not built yet (I hope it will be high enough with a pipe between the top of the shed and the antenna).

In the meantime, the antenna will be on the ground. It will still be less bad than at our current house.

I plan to use my mom's residential Internet access while Starlink is at the new house. (We have to accesses at our current house : business and residential).

At the new house, we will have Starlink. My mom also wants to get herself a Rogers "LTE to Wi-Fi" thingy as a backup if Starlink does not work. She's on FaceTime all day long for work and needs working Internet access.

Moved in #

Sunday, June 22, 2025 at 10:14 AM

We moved into our new house Friday.

The movers were supposed to be there in the afternoon, but they were there at 8. We did not have time to prepare.

The new house is 45 minutes away from the old one. Friday, they did two trips. They finished at midnight.

We also moved some stuff with our car and trailer yesterday. It will take some more trips to move everything that's left.

The water is not yet drinkable at the new house, we have to add a UV lamp to kill bacteria. I brush my teeth with a water bottle.

My server is still at the old house until I create a script to change the IP addresses of all of my websites at once.

Trailer : broke down #

Sunday, June 22, 2025 at 6:55 PM

When we were driving from our new house to the old one, the trailer jumped really high ! It almost tipped over. We looked at it and it seemed fine.

When we arrived, my dad noticed that the right wheel was no longer centered.

We lost a blade of the spring, which allowed the wheel to move back and forth.

We did not have the tools to fix it (they are at the new house). So my dad just jammed a screwdriver to hold the wheel.

We went to Canadian Tire to buy two new springs for the two wheels. They will be replaced when we have the time. There are other things that have to be done first.

Also, I start work again tomorrow. This will be a good test for our Starlink access.

Oh, and Starlink no longer says "partially obstructed" like it was at the old house. It also works much better :)

Does not suck #

This morning, me and my dad installed the central vacuum.

It took about an hour and a half.

We installed every inlet except the one in the garage. Righ now, the pipe is open to the garage, which means the other inlets do not have much vacuum. We can't find the airtight plate.

We just put some plastic and tape over the inlet. The others now work fine.

Server under desk #

Tuesday, June 24, 2025 at 6:09 PM

Today, I moved my server from our old house to the new house.

It is now close to me, under my desk, with my UPS on the side.

I had to change the IP of all of my domains to go from a Vidéotron Business Static IP (24.37.91.254) to Starlink's 'Public IP' that 'should not change often' (129.222.94.178). This is why my websites were not accessible for a few hours.

I just made myself a bash script that logs into Domains Canada and changes the IP of all of my domains at once. It is very slow, but it works. I am ready if Starlink's IP changes.

I have previously been using dynv6, but I was having problems (it returned an IP one minute and no IP the next, loop).

So, I just went back to Domains Canada, even if the TTL is an hour instead of a minute like dynv6 (but I can change that in the future).
