The results came back, and we have hard water. We will need a water softener.
Tomorrow, we will also do another test to see if the water is now drinkable, now that we have added filters and a UV light.

Finally, I just found my old iPod nano a few seconds ago !!!
I have been searching for it since we started moving.
It was at the opposite end of the room of where I thought it was.
I knew I didn't throw it away.

Offer #

We just got an offer to buy our old house.
They are planning to replace the kitchen cabinets, which means we do not have to repair the broken range hood !
(The range hood has not worked properly in months and cannot be replaced because that width is not sold anymore).
They said they would take good care of the home.
In other news, Club Jouet was very glad to take the old toys we were donating. It's better than throwing them away. We kept them in very good condition.

Starlink cable : protected #
Sunday, July 20, 2025 at 10:22 AM
When we moved in a month ago, I had to leave the Starlink cable on the ground. We could not find the rope to pull the cable through a Carlon pipe.
The cable was in the mud, sand, rock and concrete from the stonework.
Friday, I saw that the recycling bin was rolled over the cable when it was delivered. I did not like it.
So yesterday, me and my dad pulled the cable through a Carlon pipe. We used the central vacuum to pull the rope and then used the rope to pull the cable.
I put rags at both ends to prevent bugs and water from entering the pipe.
This is temporary, when the structure of the large shed will be built, we will pull the Starlink cable through the Carlon pipe buried between the house and the shed. Then, we will attach the antenna to the fascia of the shed.

New IP #
Monday, July 21, 2025 at 9:59 AM
Last night, our Starlink IPv4 address changed from 129.222.94.178 to 143.105.200.5. (I noticed at around 3:45 am)
This is the first time it has changed since we got Starlink months ago.
Fortunately, I made a bash script that logs into my registrar webpage and updates the IP addresses of all of my websites at once.
The problem is that it is manual. I have to log into my iMac, run the script and enter my password. I would like for things to be automated in the future.

I just took a picture of my rack mount.
Here you can see the emergency panel, the Starlink modem, my rack mount, the central vacuum and the pipes for the geothermal wells.
In my rack mount, I have 22 outlets, a managed switch, my ER605 router, two VoIP modules and a UPS.

Off the hook #

I plan on having the three doorbells ring the four antique phones in the house.
So I bought a ringing generator on eBay a couple of weeks ago.
One pin was broken, so I soldered a wire on what was left of the pin.
I just plugged it to one of my antique phones with a 12V battery and it ringed right away ! Hopefully, it will have enough power to ring all four phones.
I already have a plan :
Connect the doorbells to relays that then set off timers. Those timers will then switch a relay that will connect both the input and the output of the generator to the phones.
(I don't want the phones' manual generators current to enter my generator.)
I will have different timings : one second for the back doors, and two seconds for the front door.
I am still not decided between using a 12V battery, or using a wall-wart plugged into my UPS (I plan on having the wiring done on a shelf in my rack mount, where my UPS is).

In the (s)pot light #
Wednesday, July 23, 2025 at 2:41 PM
When the installers came to install the glass for my shower, we noticed that one of the pot lights was in the way. They could not install the glass.
Today, me and my dad moved the pot light. All that's left now is to plug the hole and have the installers come back to install the glass.

We lost our Starlink internet access for a couple of hours (~15h30 to ~17h30).
I just made myself a page to play my music and watch my TV shows without internet access (I needed internet access for the DNS request, even if my websites are hosted under my desk).

The phones will be ringing #

I just started making the electronics to ring the antique phones in the house when you press the doorbell.
The relay clicks when I push the button. I will be testing it with a real phone later.
