Hannah Montana #

Saturday, April 4, 2026 at 2:40 PM

While I was watching old episodes of Hannah Montana, I found out on Wikipedia that there was a 20th anniversary special.

I just torrented and watched it.

It got me a little emotional.

I first found out about Hannah Montana six years ago. I didn't watch it as a kid.

I just hope it won't spoil me watching old episodes too much.

I particularly liked the massive knife switch that turns on the lights.

Tasty, fresh water #

I just changed the two filters in my water cooler. They were six month old and the "filter" red light began to flash today.

We got the filters in the mail last week. We bought them in advance.

They provide instructions with the filters.

1. Close the valve
2. Change the filters
3. Open the valve
4. Let the cold water flow for two minutes

The power went out and my PCs are on a UPS.

Not knowing when the power was going to be back, I shut down my work PC.

When the power came back a minute later, I turned back on my work PC.

Then, it starts beeping and saying that the BIOS is corrupted !

That really scared me. I need that PC to work.

Fortunately, it fixed itself and booted normally.

1.1.5 jailbreak : success !! #

Friday, April 17, 2026 at 3:45 PM

I just received my first generation iPod touch on 1.1.5 and managed to jailbreak it with iLiberty+ !

I first uninstalled iTunes, QuickTime and "Apple Mobile Device Support" and then installed iTunes 7.7.1.11 on my Windows XP laptop.

See
https://theapplewiki.com/wiki/ITunes#32-bit
for the download link.

After some fiddling around, iTunes finally saw the iPod ! Using iLiberty+ was easy at that point. (I had some trouble getting iLiberty+ to see the iPod too).

I managed to activate afc2 and install Cydia. Unfortunately, I cannot seem to install OpenSSH through Cydia. And iLiberty+ no longer includes support for installing Installer.app.

I tried to put Installer.app on the device through "iPhone Explorer" over afc2, but it does not launch. (It just stays stuck on the splash screen and then closes.) I assume there is some permission error. I'm not even sure permissions cat be set over afc2...

The whole point I went into this project for is that I have made an AppTapp repo with every app and theme I could find for iPhone OS 1 :

I need to test it on a real device since I have gzipped the XML file and I'm not sure Installer.app will accept it as-is.

I can download games and apps.

A sizeable mistake #

I finally found why some packages on my AppTapp source were not installing.

It turns out that the "size" property was important and must be set to the size of the zip file. Otherwise, I get a download error.

I previously thought it meant the approximate size of the installed package, but no.

Clarification #

Although I first jailbroke my iPod touch with iLiberty+, it was not working. I could only install Cydia and Cydia would not work.

Not being sure I could restore the iPod (I still have DFU troubles), I just jailbroke it again with ZiPhone on my Windows XP laptop.

ZiPhone installed a working version of Installer.app (compiled in 2019). This is all I wanted.

The little games on my repo are quite fun.

Syrup time ! #

Saturday, April 25, 2026 at 4:30 PM

I just finished boiling the maple sap I made this year.

Last year, I filled four mason jars of syrup with one tree (at our old house). This year, I filled one mason jar of syrup with two trees (at our new house). Bad season.

This year, we did most of the boiling with propane and finished it on our new induction range top.

The syrup is much clearer than the dark one I made last year.

The large container in the photos was not full. It had only a few inches of sap in it.

When I think about it, if you were at the center of the earth, you would be pretty much weightless. You would be pulled in every direction by the earth.

But I think you would also be crushed, although I'm not sure.

I hate arc-fault breakers ! #

Wednesday, April 29, 2026 at 1:55 PM

They trip at nothing.

I've had the one for my office outlets trip. I heard my water cooler stop and my UPS beep. At first, I thought we had a power outage, but my ceiling light was still on. I figured it was the breaker.

So I ran two floors down to the panel and turned the breaker back on. My UPS probably needs a new battery. It lost 2/5 of its battery in 30 seconds. Bad.

I will definitely be replacing that breaker with a normal one. We already did that to my mom's office because her printer would trip the breaker (almost) every time she wanted to print.

Even our electrician knows these breakers are bad. At his own house, he only used normal breakers. But legally, he is required by electrical codes to use arc-fault breakers almost everywhere. That sucks.
