Back to normal #

Saturday, May 2, 2026 at 4:32 PM

Me and my dad finished moving the outlets of my office from the arc-fault breaker to a normal breaker.

It better not trip again.

These are photos of the small emergency panel.

My office used to be on 7, it is now on 1B. My mom's office is on 2B.

My VPN setup is now better #

Sunday, May 3, 2026 at 11:06 AM

I use a VPN for torrenting.

The way it used to work was that I would have to go to a webpage on my server to turn on the VPN. Then, I would have qBittorrent connect to a SOCKS5 proxy on my server that makes everything go through the VPN.

The problem with that setup was that magnet links would not work. I used to have to convert them to torrent files with magnet2torrent.com.

I recently discovered that you can setup qBittorrent to use a specific network interface. I also discovered that you can setup new VLAN interfaces on macOS.

Now, I have my TP-Link ER605 router connect to NordVPN. I setup a separate LAN just for VPN. Then I made sure that the VLAN can reach my iMac :

Starkink -> ER605 router -> big managed switch -> small managed switch -> iMac

I finally added a new network interface for VLAN 9 on my iMac. My iMac now gets a second IPv4 address (in the 192.168.9.0/24 subnet).

It works great !

I can make sure it works by running :

curl --interface vlan1 ifconfig.me

and getting my VPN's IP address.

(vlan0 is used to access my mom's Rogers cellular modem)

Unfortunately, I am still limited to 5 connections when downloading torrents. When using Rogers, I do not have this limit (I frequently reach 100 connections).

If every gasoline car was replaced by an electric car, I'm not sure Hydro-Québec could handle the extra load to charge all those cars.

The Doctor Who wait #

I wonder if the contract with Disney prevents the BBC from releasing new episodes before a certain date.

This may be why they have us waiting over a year for the next episode, which is the 2026 christmas special.

SurfShark is not better than NordVPN #

Saturday, May 9, 2026 at 8:09 PM

With NordVPN, I am limited to 5-6 simultaneous connections.

So I used SurfShark's free trial to see if they really had unlimited connections.

They do not. I am still limited to 5-6 connections.

I see the "5 connections" in qBittorrent. I am able to get 100 connections when using my mom's wireless Rogers modem, but not through either NordVPN or SurfShark. I made sure I was using SurfShark for my test.

Birth and death #

I believe in neither.

It seems to me like it's not going to be BANG you're born and BANG you're dead. I'd rather go with something more gradual.

No beginnings, no ends. Just constant change and movement.

Whatever makes us perceive must be there before we're "born" and after we "die".

Aside, I believe memory is just part of the body and adds depth to the other senses. It develops, changes and rots. No such thing as starting and ending.

To me, after all the ills AI brings to society, the fact that AI companies keep their servers online and do not shut them off, means that the ills are intentional.

Stiff'd #

As the years go by, I feel my mind stiffening up.

I was previously able to think and reason and be flexible, but no longer.

I no longer remember the thinking that brought me to now. Only shadows of the results. Fuzzy thoughts and poorly-sounding philosophies is my now.

Outdoor faucet : installed #

Wednesday, May 20, 2026 at 7:19 PM

We already had two outdoor faucets on each side of the house, but they were both connected to the nearest water source on the other side of the wall. This means they were connected after our filters and water softener.

We recently had some landscaping done and we plan to seed the backyard for grass.

It would be wasteful to use treated water to water the grass, so we installed a faucet through the hole we had drilled for the cable internet we did not get. We connected it right after our pressure tank.

I just made a wooden plug to make the hole smaller and pounded it in with a hammer. The faucet is screwed between the plug and the concrete.

I found episodes on Dailymotion and downloaded them with yt-dlp.

I have not seen that show in years.

Some sounds/music in the background I have also heard on Hardcore Pawn.
