Slop #

AI slop is not worth any more than the short prompt written by some guy.
I just watched the latest South Park episode.
What a load of garbage.
I don't get kids these days. Celebrating laziness, being proud of getting instant reward for no effort and liking everything fake.

Fall means the shows are broadcasting again !
Right now, I am watching :
- South Park, Wednesday
- Hell's Kitchen, Thursday
- Gold Rush, Friday
All of them become available on VidSrc the next day. (I made myself a secret page to download episodes from that site) And the day after that, I torrent them too.
The site is at vidsrc.sh, enjoy ;)
I changed my mind for the last South Park episode. Anything against Trump is good, but the whole episode sucked. I found the season premiere pretty funny with the E-bikes, hence why I watched the second one.
Hopefully the next one will be fine.

A bit too late for me to say this, but there can be a few ways to explain the end of the last Doctor Who episode.
Either :
- She is the Doctor
- She's not the Doctor, who is somewhere else
- We can just forget it, pretend it never happened and start in a different direction
When the series was revived in 2005, we never saw the regeneration. The Doctor just showed up.
I thought of this long ago, but I know people will assume I got this from the cultbox and Guardian articles. I only ever said it to my parents.

I don't often read the news of my iPhone, but God, does it suck.
Full of ads, flashes and moves all the time, and one website even made my phone heat up !
Then it gets all sluggish, even after closing the pages.
I have an ad blocker on my iMac, but not on my iPhone. I'm not even sure there are good ad blockers for iOS.

I don't get the whole "let's hire more minorities than white, 'normal' people."
You don't have to get more of them, accepting them is enough.
Why should they be preferred because of their difference ?

Instead of watching TV at dinner, we have a conversation...
A conversation about what we've seen on TV :P

AI DDoS #

With the widespread problem of poorly-vibed AI bots hammering websites constantly, a lot of websites have gone the way of proof-of-work and other JavaScript-based techniques to make it uneconomical/difficult to run those bots.
Well, first, AI companies have lots of money they can spend to solve your proof-of-works. This means that you're making performance worse for the users you want, and merely putting a small speed bump for AI bots.
Secondly, it is not good to put your HTML behind a turing-complete wall. It prevents usage by those who would like to know they can parse it without having to worry about an infinite loop or having to simulate clicks and keys on your website.
Personally, I like my websites to not rely on JavaScript at all.
Unfortunately, the only case we have today for making use of freely-available HTML pages, is AI. And I don't like it.
Fuck AI !

If you want to live in a country like the one you come from, stay there.
I don't think the right for them to live how they like means they have the right to change us.
You came here with your own free will, be willing to change.
I hate that they have a "Halal" section at maxi, a supermarket.

Not Cool #
Sunday, October 18, 2026 at 9:57 a.m.
My water cooler stopped cooling my water. We've had it for only a year. (Exactly a year actually)
Is it because of the power flash we had yesterday ?
Do I have bad luck ?
Is there a computer chip in it to make it fail a day after the warranty expires ?
It's one of those bottle-less water cooler. It plugs into a water outlet on the wall of my office (as in the photo). That outlet is fed by our well water.

I just turned off my water cooler, waited five minutes and turned it back on.
Now it works again.
Go figure.
I noticed it stopped cooling yesterday. I left it unplugged all night, but when I plugged it back in this morning, it would not cool, the coil at the back did not get hot and one of the tiny copper pipes inside had frost on it.
Now it gets hot when it cools and the tiny pipe is no longer frosted.

That PHP flaw #

I'm glad I've seen it in a comment on jwz's blog.
I have upgraded PHP on my server and restarted apache.
I guess I better look at the PHP blog more often...
Fun fact : My employer still uses PHP 7.3 with a build date of September 15 of this year :P

My employer updated PHP on their servers from 7.3 to 8.2.
I spent today fixing everything that broke.
Why not go straight to 8.5 ? I don't know.

Radon remediation #
Friday, October 23, 2026 at 2:39 p.m.
We just installed a fan to get rid of the radon in the house.
We connected it to one of the cleanouts for our exterior weeping tile.
This is an experiment. We will see if that can lower the amount of radon in the house.
If it does not work, we will drill a hole in the concrete slab in the mechanical room.
